UPDATE: This morning, Rio Grande High School was placed in a shelter in place due to a reported fight between multiple students. There were also reports of a gun involved. All students are safe and the shelter in place is lifted.
- Parents may pick up their students in the commons. You must have a photo ID.
- School will dismiss at 2:25 p.m. and buses will run as usual.
- Students who drove to school need parents to come to school to give permission to allow students to drive off campus.
UPDATE: As of 10:39 a.m., an update was provided by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office:
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rio Grande High School, in reference to a reported fight between multiple students. There was a report of a firearm involved, however no shots were reported fired.
Out of an abundance of caution, Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III mobilizes SWAT to respond to clear a large building on scene and ensure the school’s safety. No major injuries have been reported at this time.
Rio Grande High School is on a Shelter in Place, as the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office works to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.
UPDATE: As of 10:31 a.m., Rio Grande HS is in a lockdown.
As of 8:47 a.m., Rio Grande HS is in a shelter in place due to a police investigation.
