Supporting Ongoing Learning for Our Students

We are aware that school closure may impact academic growth for students, so we are investigating ways to overcome the effects of lost instructional time.

Albuquerque Public Schools is committed to ongoing support for families and students. We will be providing resources as they are created and made available by our partners to support ongoing learning opportunities for students. These resources are meant to keep young minds active and are in no way an adequate replacement for the rich learning experience schools provide. Our supports and resources are intended to maintain the curious and creative minds of our students and in no way should be seen as graded assignments or required homework.

  • We have compiled online educational resources that families can use with their children at home.
  • We are putting together printed learning packets for families with limited connectivity. The packets for students in grades K-5 are still in production. We are working out how to safely get them to families.
  • Fiction and non-fiction books in both English and Spanish also will be available at some of the Grab & Go meal sites.

We are aware that the school closure may impact academic growth for students and we are already investigating ways to overcome the effects of lost instructional time when classes resume. The resiliency of children and the professional dedication of teachers is a powerful combination and we believe that together we can overcome this challenge.

Please know that we are all in this together.

  • We encourage students to be creative.
  • Card games and board games are excellent ways for students to practice critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Play music, sing, dance, or cook.
  • Teachers, keep in touch with your students.
  • Students, keep in touch with your friends.

As recommendations for weathering this crisis evolve, we will continue to evaluate ways APS can support our students and families. Ongoing updates will be provided through the district website and the SchoolMessenger system.
