APS Suspends ALL Staff and Student Out-of-State Travel as Precaution for COVID-19

In an abundance of caution, Albuquerque Public Schools has decided to suspend all district-sponsored out-of-state staff and student travel.

We understand the decision will come as a disappointment to many, but it is the district’s responsibility to protect our school community as best we can from unnecessary risk.

The postponement of travel will extend until further notice. District officials will continue to monitor the situation and provide travel updates as information becomes available.

APS officials continue to closely monitor the potential impact of coronavirus on our community. To date, there are no confirmed cases in New Mexico, but the virus is spreading across other parts of the nation, resulting in the cancellation of events, schools, gatherings, and, in one community in New York, the designation of a one-mile containment zone.

In addition to suspending all APS-related travel, we are asking all APS students, families, and staff to take extra precautions when traveling. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s travel guidelines provide country-specific information:  Coronavirus Disease 2019 Information for Travel.

Keeping our APS community healthy is of the utmost importance so that productive instruction can continue. For ongoing updates and information, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
