Results of the 8th Annual Superintendent's Cup
The annual golf tournament presented by B&D Industries benefits the grant programs of the APS Education Foundation.
Over 220 sponsors, golfers and donors and over 30 volunteers gathered at Sandia Golf Club on July 18th to raise money for our schools.
The Superintendent’s Cup, also known as “SuperCup”, is the fun two-flight tournament hosted by the APS Education Foundation and presented by B&D Industries that brings together leaders in business, government and education to invest in academic programs to improve student outcomes. It also includes 18 holes of golf at the beautiful Sandia Golf Club.
The Foundation received numerous donations from local businesses and individuals to raise additional money through the tournament’s fundraising drawing and the Westwind Landscape Golf Ball Drop. Throughout the day, golfers made donations. Nusenda Credit Union also got in the game by taking donations at their sponsored hole for the Foundation.
This year, the tournament raised just under $75,000 that will be disbursed as grants to APS classrooms to fund innovative programs in various focus areas including STEM, fine arts and literacy.
From setup to cleanup, Foundation staff, tournament staff and volunteers were on the course for over 14 hours. The fundraising event could not take place without the hard work of the Superintendent’s Cup Golf Committee and the great group of generous and helpful volunteers. For the second year the students of the Navy JROTC from West Mesa High School instructed by Maj. Mark Hendricks, a past grantee of the Foundation, volunteered from sun up to sun down, greeting golfers, moving items and making sure everyone was hydrated.
“Even though the temperatures reached triple digits, we had a huge turnout of golfers and volunteers! On behalf of our Board of Directors, I want to thank everyone who took part and made a contribution to our grant programs through the tournament. The Superintendent’s Cup kicks off our fundraising efforts for the next fiscal year. There are a lot of great ideas waiting to become real programs in our schools. Playing in the tournament is just one way to help out. I invite anyone and everyone to learn more about all the ways you can get involved!” said Heather Johnson, President of the APS Education Foundation’s Board of Directors.
This year’s tournament winner is CCMSI. Their team included Rich Cangiolosi, Ed Reyes, Chris Cervenka and Jason Giesenger. Top sponsors of the tournament included Westwind Landscape, Bridgestone, Sandia Office Supply, Summit Energy, Poms & Associates, CCMSI, Concentra, RBC Capital Markets and Steamatic.
