Popular Weatherman to Emcee A is for Art! in November

Channel 13's Mark Ronchetti has agreed once again to host the annual art auction and gala benefiting APS students.

Mark Ronchetti, the popular chief meteorologist for KRQE News 13, has agreed to reprise his role as emcee at A is for Art!, the annual art auction/gala that makes stars of more than 120 Albuquerque Public Schools students.

A is for Art! is scheduled for Nov. 7 at Hotel Albuquerque, from 5:30-9 p.m., and will attract hundreds of community members interested in supporting Fine Arts in the state’s largest school district. Nearly 140 pieces will be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting the student artists, the APS Fine Arts Department at the APS Education Foundation, which has held the event for the past six years.

Each year, a high school fine arts department is “auctioned” to the highest bidder, and this year Highland High will be featured. The event’s walk of fame sponsor is Technology Integration Group.

Tickets will go on sale soon at

Casaus said Ronchetti energy helped make the live auction the most successful in the event’s history.

“Mark’s time is at a premium, and we are so grateful for his willingness to do this again,” he said. “He made the event fun for a lot of people, and I’m hoping his young daughter comes again this year because she was helping him bid on items as well. In fact, she may have given him too much help.”

Pieces in the show range from painting to sculpture to ceramics. Almost all were featured in the springtime Metro Show at Expo New Mexico. Members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors selected potential items for auction in A is for Art!, and after securing permission from students and their families, were placed into the event.

“A is for Art! has become one of the most popular ways to support APS and fine arts,” Casaus said. “And we’re hoping to continue that tradition this year.”
