APS students are encouraged to write an essay, poem or thank you about an educator who has influenced them. Winners will throw out the first pitch at the May 23 Educators Appreciation Game Night.

Educators' Appreciation Game Night at Isotopes Park is Friday, May 23.

The Albuquerque Isotopes are sponsoring the second annual Student 's Choice Top Educator Essay Contest. Students can write about how much they appreciate their teacher, principal, librarian, coach or other educator. The topic of the 200-word (maximum) essay, which can also be in the form of a poem or thank you, is "How an educator has influenced my life."

The contest is open to APS traditional and alternative school students in grades K-12. One entry per student may be submitted. The essays may be handwritten or typed. They should be accompanied by an entry form.

The essays and entry forms can be emailed to or mailed to APS Education Foundation, P.O. Box 25704, Albuquerque, 87125.

The deadline for submission is May 5 by 4 p.m.

The essays will be reviewed and judged by the Isotopes. Winners will be notified by May 7. In addition to free tickets to the game and a chance to throw out the first pitch, winners will receive a $25 gift card to Dion's Pizza.
