Foundation Sends Dozens of APS Families to See The Lion King for Free

The APS Education Foundation bought 50 tickets so students and families from APS schools can see the show on APS night this Thursday, Oct. 11.

The APS Education Foundation is making it possible for dozens of families to see Disney’s much-anticipated “The Lion King” for free.

The Foundation bought 50 tickets earlier this year so students and families from five APS schools – Matheson Park, Edward Gonzales, Eubank, Emerson and Sierra Vista – could attend Thursday night’s showing at the University of New Mexico’s Popejoy Hall.

Schools that received the tickets were chosen in a random drawing, said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. Each school received 10 tickets apiece and created their own matrix for making sure families who might not otherwise have the means were able to attend.

“`The Lion King’ is one of the most popular shows to emerge from Broadway in many years, and the students will have the opportunity to see the production at one of the top entertainment venues in New Mexico – and perhaps, be inspired to create their own work of art someday,” Casaus said. “The Foundation Board of Directors was very happy to make this happen.”

The Oct. 11 showing takes place the evening before APS’ fall break, which is an added bonus for families. The auditorium should be filled with employees and students – the Foundation sold tickets as a fundraiser for that date.
