Congrats Merit Scholarship Winners
Five recent APS graduates are National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners. Five additional graduates of the APS Class of 2022 received National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities.
National Merit $2500 Scholarship Winners
Albuquerque Public Schools is proud to announce its National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners:
- Milidu N. Jayaweera, La Cueva High School
- Andrew Kim, La Cueva High School
- Malcolm Parnall, Albuquerque High School
- Mario F. Sumali, La Cueva High School
- Melody F. Yeh, La Cueva High School
These students are among 2,500 chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors. Fourteen New Mexico students were named National Merit $2500 scholarship winners this year.
College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship Winners
Albuquerque Public Schools is proud to announce its college-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners:
- Elan Z. Landau, La Cueva High School
- Ainsley A. Paas, Eldorado High School
- Mason C. Parrish, Manzano High School
- Joseph R. Watson, Eldorado High School
- Benjamin A. Willhite, La Cueva High School
These students are among approximately 2,600 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
This year, 155 higher education institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarship awards through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sponsor colleges and universities include 82 private and 73 public institutions in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
