Be A Teacher

Apply to be a teacher resident through the Albuquerque Teacher Residency Partnership

Candidates for the residency program must: 

  • Qualify for admission to the UNM College of Education and Human Sciences Graduate Program
  • Seek a teaching license in elementary or secondary education
  • Agree to teach in APS for a minimum of two years
  • Hold a bachelor's degree 
  • Pass PRAXIS Basic Skills test (exam Information
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S.  

Resident Benefits

  • Complete coursework for a New Mexico teaching license in one year
  • Option to earn a master's degree from UNM
  • Approximately $15,000 stipend during the first year of residency
  • NM Workforce Connection funding for tuition and books if eligible
  • Intense mentorship and support from APS master teachers and UNM faculty
  • Guaranteed teaching position with APS after MT recommendation and successful completion of program
