Maria Bolivar, Secretary, Mountain View Elementary School
No matter what job she holds, Maria displays the same passion and love for the children, staff, and family she serves. She started at the school as a kindergarten assistant, then moved to the bilingual program. She served as the parent liaison, clerk and now school secretary. She has done everything from co-teaching to translating to helping families with school uniforms, clothing vouchers, food and more. She has been described as efficient, effective and capable with a strong work ethic.
"Maria is one of the key puzzle pieces to our outstanding school," wrote co-worker Scott Herschbergert.
Jeannie Chavez, Custodian of Records
The Custodian of Records role is increasingly demanding and can be overwhelming. Jeannie never fails to maintain a steady calm professionalism amid multiple demanding situations. She goes above and beyond every day, always putting others first.
"Jeannie goes out of her way to show professionalism, team spirit, a positive and welcoming attitude, and a strong work ethic," said co-worker Heidi Raybould. "It's her goal to make a positive difference for APS, both internally and externally. She is a joy to work with."
Adrian Hernandez, Educational Assistant at S.R. Marmon Elementary School
Adrian is described as kind and caring. He often works overtime to support his students and the classroom, making copies, laminating, cleaning, and organizing the room to create a successful learning environment. He makes sure each student's individual needs are met. He buys groceries and clothing items, transports homeless students, cooks dinners for families, volunteers for school events, even comes in during the break. He has helped create a sense of belonging for students and families.
"Since day one, Adrian has come into one of the most difficult settings in education with a very positive attitude that makes him great to work with," said Special Education Teacher Nancy Rabelo.
Buffy Vigil, Behavior Redirector at E.G. Ross Elementary School
Staff and students at E.G. Ross agree that Buffy is one of the most positive, welcoming people at the school. She is great at supporting all students and they know that her room is a safe place to go when they are feeling sad or frustrated. She has a passion for her job and loves working with children. She always displays a welcoming attitude to staff and students alike. In her role, she focuses on the whole child and strives to help all students succeed, not just at school but in life.
"Buffy elevates the image of public education as well as supports the mission of APS, " said School Counselor Kendra Moulton.
Award recipients will be selected monthly by a Peer Praise Task Force.
