Desert Ridge Student is State Spelling Bee Champ

Posted April 1, 2021, 4:01 PM. Updated July 20, 2022, 11:40 AM.

Christabel Thiel-Hajilambrinos will compete in the national semifinals later this spring.

We have a winner!

APS's very own Christabel Thiel-Hajilambrinos, an 8th grader at Desert Ridge Middle School, won the Scripps NM State Spelling Bee. She won with a perfect score in both the original testing round and the tiebreaker round.

Christabel will participate in the Scripps National Semi-Final Spelling Bee later this spring, competing against champions from each state.

The top 12 students from the semifinals will then compete live in the National Spelling Bee Final in Florida.

Best of luck, Christabel, and well done!

Special thanks to Nusenda Credit Union for sponsoring the NM State Spelling Bee. And thanks to all of the APS team members who helped to put together our 2021 APS Virtual Spelling Bee.
