Special Olympics Unified Champion School Award

La Cueva High School was presented with the 2018 Special Olympics Unified Champion Award.

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools is a school-based initiative that uses sports and leadership programs to activate young people in developing school communities where all youth are agents of change – fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities.

This year, La Cueva High School received the prestigious designation and ranked as one of the top 30 schools in the nation for the Special Olympics UCSA. The program pairs students with and without disabilities so they can practice sports, build friendships, and work on leadership and communication skills. La Cueva received national recognition from both the Special Olympics and the presenting sponsor, ESPN. They are 1 of 221 schools in the country to be named a Banner School since the program's beginning in 2007.
