Flying Star Café Continues to Open Its Doors to APS Students

Posted September 29, 2017, 4:25 PM. Updated October 24, 2024, 10:29 AM.

Flying Star Café has partnered with the APS Education Foundation in numerous ways over the last three years by raising funds to alleviate student lunch debt, donating catering for student artists at A is for Art, recognizing teachers through Pepsi Teacher of the Month and by hosting student tours of their facilities.

Culinary arts students from Eldorado High School, led by their teacher, Kristen Meyer, recently visited Flying Star for a behind the scenes look.  From cakes to bagels to soups and sauces, students were given the opportunity to see how the food is prepared and distributed.  They were also able to assemble and decorate their own fruit tarts to take home, although many tarts didn’t make it past the parking lot.

The goal of these tours with corporate partners is to provide students the opportunity to learn more about possible career paths by visiting the experts on site.  Jean Bernstein of Flying Star Café said, “We love giving students a glimpse into the magic behind Flying Star – showing how real food and old fashioned bakery items are made from scratch each day.  It’s a time honored profession and our people take great pride in the food and desserts they make each day.”
