APS Announces Community Endorsements for Feb. 5 Election
Local organizations lend support for bond/mil levy package.
Albuquerque Public Schools has received the support of eight local government and community organizations in its request for voters to approve a $368 million bond/mil levy package in the APS School Improvements Election on Feb. 5. APS Superintendent Winston Brooks announced the endorsements along with Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry at a news conference Tuesday at Dolores Gonzales Elementary School.
Organizations endorsing school capital funding are
- The city of Albuquerque and Albuquerque City Council;
- Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce;
- Albuquerque Teachers Federation;
- Association of General Contractors;
- American Institute of Architects, Albuquerque Chapter;
- University Heights Association; and
- Home Builders Association of Central New Mexico.
“These supporters recognize the importance of an educated future workforce, and the significant impact that capital funding has on our local economy,” Brooks said. “Tuesday’s election is critical for the safety, maintenance and well-being of our buildings and, thus, our students. We owe it to our children to provide them with a safe, modern environment in which to learn.”
The APS School Improvements Election, which will provide funds for building renovation and renewal, is Feb. 5. The early voting period runs through Friday.
