APS Hosts Summer Graduation on Monday, July 22

More than 200 students will get their diplomas during the ceremony.

Albuquerque Public Schools will host a summer graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Just over 200 of the 245 students who took summer classes and garnered the credits they need to earn a high school diploma are expected to participate in Monday's ceremony. Five of the students are graduating early from high school.

This summer, more than 4,000 high school students attended summer school classes and another 2,500 took online classes.

The graduation ceremony is a colorful event, with students from APS comprehensive high schools, magnet schools and charter schools wearing caps and gowns in their school colors.

"This is a very diverse group of graduates. They attended different schools. They grew up in different neighborhoods. They took a variety of paths to get to this achievement," said APS Superintendent Raquel Reedy. "Some of them learn differently than others or had to help support their family. Some of them faced an illness or injury, or just needed a little more time to mature or get motivated. And a handful of them chose to get it done early, taking extra classes over the years so you can hurry up and start the next chapter of their lives. I am proud of them all and congratulate them and their families."

Congratulations to all of our graduates for their hard work and dedication!!

Parking is $6 in the Convention Center parking lot.

Note to Graduates: Pick up your tickets from APS City Center on Friday, July 19; ticket distribution is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 101. You need to be at the Kiva for rehearsal by 4:30 p.m. Monday.
