Mission Avenue Hosts Spring Showcase
Mission Avenue Elementary School’s Spring Showcase provided an interactive experience for students, families and the community.
Mission Avenue Elementary School’s Spring Showcase was truly out of this world! As a proud STEM Magnet School of America, Mission Ave. transformed its hallways into an interactive science experience for students, families and the community.
Guests were invited to explore a wide variety of student-led, hands-on activities grounded in project-based learning. Highlights included a student-built “Mission to Mars” habitat, robotic dogs courtesy of Sandia National Laboratories, and a palm oil taste test experiment to raise awareness about environmental impacts like deforestation.
Students took what they learned about force and motion and turned it into a bowling game. Planetary studies became a fun “Ring the Planet” game. Erosion demonstrations, straw rocket launches, salt art, marshmallow-and-toothpick bridge building, and a jaw-dropping Glow Show featuring black-light student artwork were just a few of the other immersive experiences on display.
Mission Avenue’s young scientists also explored robotics, flew drones, made videos, and introduced VR goggles to guests, giving community members a chance to join in on the tech-filled fun—including dancing with robots!
Valley High School students joined the showcase with a button-making station, and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was on hand to support students and strengthen community connections.
This vibrant, engaging event was a shining example of how STEM education fuels curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
