Balloons to Launch from Schools on Friday, Oct. 5

Albuquerque Aloft is the unofficial kickoff to the Balloon Fiesta.

Hot air balloons will launch or tether from the playgrounds of 70 APS elementary schools on Friday, Oct. 5, for the 13th annual Albuquerque Aloft, the first flying event of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

Students, families and staff have the opportunity to meet the pilots and crew and experience the excitement of watching and learning how a hot air balloon inflates and flies. Albuquerque Aloft is the only Balloon Fiesta flying event that launches outside of Balloon Fiesta Park.

Balloons typically begin inflating around 6:45 a.m. with launch time around 30 minutes later, weather permitting.

Albuquerque Aloft also provides city residents and guests a visual preview of Balloon Fiesta, as balloons launch from different sites around the city simultaneously. KKOB AM Radio, the official voice of Balloon Fiesta, coordinates the launch.
