Three Board of Education Members Sworn In

Yolanda Montoya-Cordova, Peggy Muller-Aragón, and Barbara Petersen took their oaths of office during a ceremony before the board's first meeting of the new year on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Muller-Aragón and Petersen were re-elected to a second term in November. Montoya-Cordova won her first election after being appointed to fill a board vacancy two years earlier.

Montoya-Cordova serves District 1, representing the southwest, including Atrisco Heritage Academy, Rio Grande High School, and their feeder schools.

Muller-Aragón serves District 2, representing the northwest, including Volcano Vista and Cibola High and their feeders.

Petersen serves District 4, representing mid-town, including Highland High School and its feeder schools.

The three board members were elected to serve four-year terms and join members Lorenzo Garcia representing District 3, Candelaria Patterson representing District 5, Elizabeth Armijo representing District 6, and Dr. David Peercy representing District 7.

Board members on Thursday voted to continue serving in the same offices and as chairs of the same committees as they have over the past couple of years:

  • Vice President and Audit Committee: Garcia

  • Finance: Muller-Aragón
  • District Equity and Inclusion: Patterson
  • Capital Outlay, Property, and Technology: Armijo
  • Policy and Instruction: Petersen
