Statement from Board President Concerning Superintendent

The APS Board of Education will meet Thursday for further discussion and action.

Dr. Don Duran, president of the Albuquerque Public School Board of Education, released the following statement on Sunday, Aug. 23:

"The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education had a very frank discussion with Superintendent Luis Valentino this evening.

After a thorough and rigorous discussion of the facts as we know them tonight, we have scheduled a special Board of Education meeting for 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, for further discussion and action.

Let me be clear that this has been a painful experience for the Board, Superintendent Valentino and the community. This board takes our responsibility seriously, as well as our commitment to our constituents.

We know that public trust is an issue for us now, and we will do everything we can to regain the public trust and confidence. We apologize for putting the community through this ordeal.

You can rest assured that tomorrow schools will open, teachers will provide quality instruction to all students, and student safety, security and success will continue to be our focus."
