Jogging to Help Others

The annual jog-a-thon at Double Eagle ES benefits the APS Title I Homeless Project

It isn’t your average jog-a-thon.

Students participating in the annual event at Double Eagle Elementary School not only run to promote health and wellness, but also support their community by donating food and supplies to the APS Title I Homeless Project.

“A lot of other jog-a-thons collect money for laps that go back to the PTA, but community service is important here so we take a different approach,” said Principal Robin Hoberg.

Students participating in the jog-a-thon collect food including sustainable healthy snacks along with toiletries such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, dental floss, brushes and combs.  These items go to students supported by the APS Homeless Project.

Many volunteers from the community were on hand to support the students including the Isotopes’ Orbit, UNM’s Lobo Louie and student athletes from UNM and La Cueva High School.
