Board of Ed Names Reedy as Superintendent

The long-time educator who served for eight months as acting superintendent got a two-year contract Wednesday.

Statement from Board President Dr. David Peercy:

“The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education has offered acting Superintendent Raquel Reedy a two-year contract as Superintendent of the Albuquerque Public Schools.

“The Board voted 6 to 1 at its regular meeting this evening to offer Reedy a contract to serve in the position on a more permanent basis.

“We are happy that Ms. Reedy has decided to accept the contract. We believe that under her leadership the district will have the stability it needs to tackle the challenges it faces.

‘With her experience of more than 35 years as an educator and administrator in the Albuquerque Public Schools, we believe she is familiar with the district’s strengths and weaknesses. Ms. Reedy has the vision and the drive to move the district forward in its goal of providing every student with the education necessary to be successful.”

The contract, which expires in June of 2018, includes an annual salary of $240,000.
