APS Earns Energy Conservation Award

Award presented by Assoc. of Energy Engineers

Albuquerque Public Schools has been recognized for its energy conservation efforts by the Association of Energy Engineers.

APS was winner of the Region IV 2016 Institutional Energy Award for its comprehensive energy conservation program. Region IV includes 12 Southwestern states.

In 2015, APS established a water and energy conservation committee with representatives from APS executive leadership, the state’s Energy Office, local utility providers and other business leaders. The committee has a goal of reducing water and energy usage by 20 percent by the end of the 2024 school year, using 2014 as the baseline year.

“We are looking to save the district money by becoming more energy efficient and by conserving both energy and water,” said Ruben Hendrickson, APS chief operations officer. “Savings can be used to put more funds into instruction.”

The conservation award will be presented Sept. 20 at the opening of the World Energy Engineering Conference in Washington, D.C.
