Albuquerque has a national spelling bee champ.

Miriam Arias Arcineda placed first in the 2019 National Spanish Spelling Bee. She shares the title with nine other students. Like the English spelling bee, the judges ran out of words. The kids were that good.

¡Felicidades Miriam!

The National Spanish Spelling Bee was held in Denver July 11-14. Forty students competed in the intense competition that lasted seven hours. The participants came from 13 states and the District of Columbia. They were supported by their teachers and families.

The National Spanish Spelling Bee was hosted by the Colorado Association for Bilingual Education. Sponsors included the New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education, Dual Language Education of New Mexico, the Spanish Resource Center in Albuquerque.

The event provides students the opportunity to showcase their Spanish language skills and to network with peers from throughout the country.
