The NACA Inspired Schools Network (NISN) is building a movement of students, families, and educators to create excellent schools relevant to the communities they serve. In the International District of Albuquerque, the UNM Community Engagement Center and the NM Dream Team are co-leading the effort to bring NISN perspectives to the neighborhood. NISN works with fellows, who are committed to Indigenous communities and Indigenizing education to establish schools in New Mexico and throughout the country that will create strong leaders who are academically prepared, secure in their identities, healthy, and ultimately transforming their communities.

General Functions: The Head of School serves as the primary leader and manager of programs, staff and students. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of school leadership theory and practice; experience as a principal and/or assistant principal; and as a K-5 teacher; expertise in school safety; student discipline/restorative justice; data analysis, long term strategic planning and systems thinking as it relates to curriculum development, experience with budgetary oversight and planning, community engagement and charter school development; experience with budgetary oversight and planning; knowledge of local, state and federal school policy and procedures; knowledge of multilingual language development; knowledge of land-based learning; experience with supervision and evaluation of school personnel; experience working with boards, parents and various community organizations; and mediation and restorative justice skills.

Required Skills

  • New Mexico Administrative License (3B)
  • Five years of teaching experience, preferably early childhood/elementary experience
  • Background Check that meets the state standards for school personnel
  • School leadership experience with evidence of demonstrated success in working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations
  • Experience with using student performance data to foster the academic success of all students
  • Knowledgeable about charter school compliance, governmental laws, and regulations
  • Understanding of the distinction of roles and responsibilities of governance vs management in a charter school setting
  • Knowledge of NMPED Educator Evaluation system (Elevate NM) and Canvas system for uploading documents to the NMPED.
  • Respect for and uplifting of diverse cultural elements of language, tradition, citizenship status, customs, attitudes, migration stories, and humility as core values of the organizational culture.
