Technology Leadership High School is an APS charter. We are adding at least one additional school social work position for the 2021-2022 academic year. We are looking for an authentic, passionate, dynamic and inspiring professional who will demonstrate commitment to improving education for students and families through student support, community engagement and project-based learning. We value creative and energetic professionals who have an enthusiastic approach to leadership development, as it applies to both themselves and students.

This is a full-time position housed at the school campus. Social worker reports directly to the Director of Student Support. Social worker is chiefly responsible for carrying out the mission of the school based on the following duties:

  •  Adhere to IEP Process deadlines and procedures
  •  Assist staff with interventions for students, such as counseling referrals in the community, emotional and social support and stress management
  •  Assist students and families with community resources; i.e., legal issues, advocacy, trainings, referrals to support groups and mental health agencies
  •  Attend IEP meetings as an advocate for the student and family
  •  Communicate regularly with families providing engagement interventions for their child
  •  Communicate with Regular Education Teachers on progress of the defined caseload of students
  •  Compile and Maintain Special Education Compliant Files
  •  Complete semester progress towards goals for caseload students
  •  Conduct assessments as needed for social work special education eligibility
  •  Conduct home visits and family meetings
  •  Consult with other mental health professionals to address student needs
  •  Create, manage, support and document IEP goals for special education students
  •  Document consultation time with teachers, families, and students
  •  Educate and promote healthy behaviors for students
  •  Educate visitors who wish to learn about the school’s academic, social and emotional support model
  •  Engage students within the classroom setting
  •  Facilitate discussions in the classroom to promote social and emotional wellness
  •  Facilitate the growth of a physically and an emotionally safe school culture through activities in Advisory
  •  Guide the advisors in the Advisory Framework implementation through collaboration
  •  Manage paperwork for students needs
  •  Participate in professional development to improve student performance, instructional practice, and school initiatives
  •  Perform duties as a case manager for students
  •  Prioritize student needs within a bustling school environment
  •  Provide crisis intervention and mediation services to students
  •  Supervise students during transition time and lunch
  •  Support all students through individual and group sessions focusing on coping skills
  •  Implement a schoolwide culture of student accountability through Positive Youth Development
  •  Commitment to other essential duties as necessitated within a charter school with a small staff.

Required Skills

  1. Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited University.
  2. NM Public Education Department (NM PED) School Social Work license
  3. New Mexico Social Worker License, LMSW, LCSW preferred
  4. Ability to pass a background check

  1. Bilingual or Multilingual
  2. Creative problem-solver and multi-tasker
  3. Experience supporting the social and emotional needs of students
  4. Experience in facilitating inclusive educational practices and supporting the development of English Language Learners
  5. Highly organized and adept in documentation
  6. Knowledge and understanding of social work services in school settings
  7. Strong communication and collaboration skills
  8. 3-5 years of direct practice experience with youth
