Alice King Community School is accepting resumes from qualified candidates for the role of Special Education Coordinator. The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for the structures, processes, and supports that ensure the needs of special education students are being met appropriately and that AKCS is in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  •  Meets with Head Administrator regularly
  •  Fosters community and partnership with students, teachers, and families
  •  Facilitates weekly special education team meetings
  •  Oversees special education caseloads for each case manager; maintains an individual caseload as needed
  •  Facilitates communication between special education teachers, parents, administration, and regular education staff
  • Ensures appropriate delivery of both special education instruction and related services as indicated in IEPs
  •  Provides support to special education teachers for working folders, service logs, scheduling IEPs, ensuring all paperwork is correct and current
  •  Schedules testing for initial evaluations and reevaluations
  •  Oversees FTEs for case managers and ancillary providers
  •  Works with Technology Coordinator to make available technology needed for students who require it
  •  Manages paperwork required to maintain compliant documentation for IDEA and state regulations
  •  Facilitates professional development related to special education, particularly in the area of inclusion
  •  Facilitates/Participates in the FBA/BIP process for students with IEPs; supports teachers as well as students with behavioral needs
  •  Manages the IEP calendar and attends all IEP meetings as the LEA
  •  Works with outside agencies and other schools regarding special education needs
  •  Provides training and technical assistance to case managers, teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of cases management: use of computer systems for the special education process, writing goals, progress reports, annual reviews and parent communication.
  •  Requests files for new students; maintains all special education files

Required Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Master's degree or higher
  •  Special Education License
  •  Ability to pass a background check


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Administration License
  •  TESOL endorsement
