The mission of ACE Leadership High School is to prepare young people to have successful careers in the construction professions (Architecture, Construction & Engineering). Our goal is to be the best school in the United States at transitioning its graduates to postsecondary education, apprenticeship, and/or meaningful careers. We believe that relevant, project-based instruction, focused on students “learning by doing every day in every class,” teamed with high levels of care and concern and reciprocal industry/community relationships, will produce exemplary graduates ready to successfully transition to a healthy and successful life.

Position Description:

At ACE, all staff are trusted professionals who are committed to their own growth and development and we invest in their learning through systematic and ongoing professional development. Project Teachers/Advisors are expected to play many roles beyond their title or specific content area, including advisor, advocate, family liaison, community outreach, and school leader. Project Teachers/Advisors work as leaders and are comfortable facilitating learning in multiple content areas, 21st century and ACE workforce skills, and collaborating with Industry Partners. Staff serve as advisors implementing positive youth development practices and share collective responsibility for the student support and social emotional learning of students.

Project Teachers/Advisors Teachers are primarily responsible for carrying out the mission of the school based on the following duties:

  • Design authentic and engaging ACE Industry focused projects through “project based learning” aligned to learning objectives/standards.
  • Commitment to a “mastery-based” instructional method and assessment process that engages young people in a skill development and content knowledge that is not based on traditional measures of seat time and letter grades.
  • Collaborate in a co-teaching model to develop and archive regular cross disciplinary projects that culminate in exhibitions of learning at the end of each trimester and/or school year.
  • Provide “inclusive” instruction to accommodate for students with learning disabilities and language acquisition needs.
  • Support and facilitate the development of student ACE Industry and broad workforce readiness skills in a group work model.
  • Serve as an Advisor to a group of students that includes archiving their growth, experiences and supporting transition planning as well as planning and facilitating learning experiences during Advisory
  • Facilitate the growth of a physically and emotionally safe school culture through daily activities in Projects and Advisory
  • Communicate regularly with families, or surrogates, about students to ensure the highest level of support for students in and out of school including having family meetings at least two times a year.
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development. Develop professional development experiences for staff with regard to area(s) of expertise.
  • Operate classrooms that are open to visitors and community partners who wish to learn about/experience the school model.
  • Collaborate with Project-based Reading and Math Interventionists to implement a system for academic interventions through Projects and Advisory.
  • If licensed appropriately, manage a caseload of special education students and participate in regular professional development to improve instructional practices with these students and/or directly support effective sheltered instruction practices for English language learners including any assessment or documentation requirements
  • Participate in the management of students during the time that they are out of class and on campus and complete other duties as assigned

Required Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Valid New Mexico teaching license or interim license
  • Experience and ability to work with and understand the developmental nature of our young people with a focus on developing their assets
  • High professional skills (organization, accountability, etc)
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
  • Strong relationship building with students and families
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Special Education, Math or CTE Teaching License
  • Experience with Positive Youth Development and supporting the social and emotional needs of students
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction trades, project management, principles of architecture and/or engineering
  • Experience with Project Based Learning, Performance Assessment and/or Mastery-based Assessment Leadership / Program Development experience
  • Bilingual Spanish and/or ASL
  • Experience working with English Language Learners
