Special Recognition

All APS students participating in the Indian Education Program can receive special recognition which may include: t-shirts, backpacks, zoo passes.

About the Nominations

Who can nominate a student?

All APS employees are encouraged to nominate Native American students.

Important Dates:

  • January: IED starts accepting nominations
  • Mid April: Nomination deadline
  • May: Recognitions are given out.

How does an APS employee nominate a student?

Nominations can be e-mailed to Elizabeth Trujillo at , faxed to (505) 872-8849, or mailed interoffice to the Indian Education Department. 

Recognition Categories

Students can be recognized in the categories of:

  • Leadership (e.g. Student Council, Senate)
  • Most Improved
  • Citizenship
  • Community Service
  • The Arts (Band, Music, Fine Arts)
  • Sports (APS District Athletic Director)
  • Academics: GPA 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 (Synergy)
  • ROTC
  • Perfect Attendance (0 absence)
  • Good Attendance (1-5 days of excused absence) (Synergy)
  • Other categories: you or your staff may submit a category that is specific to your school and deserving of student recognition
