Pepsi Announces Virtual Challenge to Support APS Schools and Departments

Pepsi Beverages Company understands the power of individuals coming together to make a difference in public education.  Each year, the company issues The Pepsi Challenge during Gold Bar, the signature recognition and fundraising event supporting the APS Education Foundation.  For each guest that makes a contribution, Pepsi will match their donation up to $5,000.  That match means an additional $10,000 or more will be granted to APS classrooms, schools and departments in the fall.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the APS Education Foundation could not hold Gold Bar.  Last year, the event raised over $77,000.  Many corporate sponsors and ticket purchasers donated their contributions even though the event could not be held, knowing that the impact of the crisis would be felt deeply by the teachers and students trying to find innovative ways to catch up in the fall.

Educators across the district have taken on the challenge of distance learning and have embraced new technologies in order to stay engaged with students.  Pepsi and the APS Education Foundation are asking community members to rise to the challenge with them by supporting their innovation.

“With so many uncertainties, and not sure what our students and teachers will face when schools reopen, the Foundation will be there to welcome them with open arms.  We want to make sure they are ready with every resource, tool and support they need to start the school year off strong and successfully.  The community provides the Foundation the capabilities to supply our schools with what is necessary to engage students, empower teachers and strengthen academic programs.  It takes a strong community to rise to the occasion each year to provide support, and we believe during these trying times, they will embrace the need more than ever.”

Pepsi launched their challenge on April 24th and is asking individuals to make donations online until May 1st.  Adrian Chavez of Pepsi, who also serves on the APS Education Foundation stated, “The APS Foundation has been creative in their fundraising efforts,  but it is individual contributions that are so critical to its success. Any amount will go a long way to support the 80,000 students enrolled in APS and, for example, if we raise just $1 per student the foundation could incubate 20 innovative projects that directly impact the classroom and enrich the learning experience.”

Donations of $10, $25, $50 or more add up to make a huge difference in the classroom, where every dollar counts.  That impact has the opportunity to be doubled when matched by the Pepsi contribution from now until May 1st.
