Grant Winner Drive-Thru Celebration

The APS Education Foundation hosted the event at APS headquarters on Aug. 17 to honor Spring 2020 awardees.

With the pandemic forcing the Foundation to cancel its grant award orientation that was previously scheduled in March, staff organized a “drive-by” orientation for APS teachers and staff.

Winners received a giant check to display at their schools along with Grant Winner decals and t-shirts.

The event, held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, took place in the south parking lot of the APS administration building, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE. The lot was filled with colorful signs, light snacks, and fun music.

Nearly 30 cars pulled up, many honking their horns and taking a few photos - from a social distance of course!

During the Spring 2020 grant cycle, the APS Education Foundation awarded over 46 grants to APS schools and district departments, totaling approximately $238,000. These grants help to support college and career readiness, student competitions, schoolwide projects, early literacy programs, student clubs, and classroom activities in STEM, Literacy, and Fine Arts.

The Foundation looks forward to opening the Fall 2020 grant cycle on Sept. 8.
