Friday is Deadline for Submitting Horizon Awards Applications

The awards, sponsored by the APS Education Foundation, provide between $1,500 and $5,000 to projects in literacy, fine arts, middle and high school activities, STEM and, for the first time, financial literacy.

The APS Education Foundation has provided teachers, classrooms and schools all over the district more than $300,000 in Horizon Awards since the program began in 2010. Thousands of students have been touched by the awards through teachers’ innovative proposals to improve classroom teaching and learning.

Individuals may apply for up to $1,500 and school teams may apply for up to $5,000 for projects supporting one of four focus areas – Literacy, Fine Arts, Middle and High School Clubs or Activities, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Financial literacy is also included in this cycle.

For more information, contact Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus at or 878.6165 or Partnerships Manager Lauren Joule at or 855.5274.

One original copy with the application cover page attached and five stapled copies of the grant proposal may be dropped off at the Foundation's office in the APS administration building, 6400 Uptown Blvd., Suite 630E, before 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 8.
