Albuquerque Public Schools is proud of the many dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to support students. Now in its seventh year, the Employee Recognition Program honors these outstanding staff members.

The honorees will be featured on APS electronic billboards around town and honored at a reception. They will also receive a lasting memento.
Jenna Bludworth – Principal, Marie Hughes Elementary School
Bludworth’s leadership at Marie Hughes Elementary is defined by innovation, resilience and a commitment to fostering a thriving school culture. “Her leadership is nothing short of outstanding—innovative, creative and always focused on fostering a positive and thriving school culture,” one colleague said. Blending creativity with data-driven decision-making, Bludworth ensures that students, staff and families feel empowered. “She doesn't just implement best practices—she reimagines what success can look like in a school setting,” her colleague added.
Even in challenging times, Bludworth remains steadfast in supporting both student success and staff well-being. Her exceptional ability to lead through change and inspire others truly makes her a unique and outstanding leader.
Meg Crist – Extended Leaves Specialist, APS Human Resources/Benefits
Crist has shown unparalleled dedication to APS employees, managing the complex world of extended leaves with care and compassion. “Meg was the only leaves person covering ALL leaves in an area where there should have been three employees,” a fellow benefits team member said. She single-handedly managed all leave cases for two years, working tirelessly to ensure staff received the needed support.
Even while facing her own health challenges, Crist prioritized others, demonstrating a level of selflessness that is truly extraordinary. Her hard work and unwavering commitment make her an invaluable part of APS.
Gary Day – Clerk, Edmund G. Ross Elementary School
Day goes above and beyond to support the school, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Whether setting up for PTA meetings, unlocking doors for events or lending a hand during school functions, he does it all with a positive attitude. “It’s really wonderful to have him at the front desk now,” a parent said. “He is just a joy to be around!”
His proactive nature means he’s often ahead of schedule, preparing trash bins, arranging chairs and coordinating logistics without being asked. Staff and families alike appreciate his dedication and the warm, welcoming presence he brings to the front office.
Angelica Trujillo – Special Programs Educational Assistant, Taylor Middle School
Trujillo’s compassion and dedication to her students set her apart as an exceptional educator. “Angelica is a hard-working and compassionate educator who is deeply committed to the success of the students she serves,” a colleague said. Working with a challenging student population, she remains patient, adaptable and always focused on individual student success.
“Her deep compassion for students who have experienced trauma or learning difficulties allows her to build trusting relationships that foster growth and confidence,” her colleague added. Her ability to connect with students—especially those facing adversity—helps build trust and confidence in the classroom. Bringing positivity and strength to those around her, Trujillo exemplifies resilience and an unwavering commitment to nurturing others.
How to nominate an employee
You can nominate an employee by filling out the Employee Recognition online application. Nominations must be completed by someone other than the nominee. Self-nominations are not eligible for consideration.
Award recipients will be selected monthly by a Peer Praise Task Force.
