APS Education Foundation Announces Spring 2021 Grant Award Winners

Posted April 14, 2021, 9:20 AM. Updated February 28, 2023, 4:44 PM.

A place for teachers and students to find resources and support for 3D printing.

Special education itinerant preschool teachers and social workers will create kits to help preschool students self-regulate in their general education preschool setting.

An out of school time club aimed at helping students prepare skills for work/life balance.

A classroom where students create digital photography and 3D images become real artifacts through modeling and scanning.

A community wide book club that encourages social emotional learning and cultivates a love of learning.

These are just some of the ideas that will come to life thanks to donors who contributed to the grant programs of the APS Education Foundation.

This spring, the Foundation received 72 grant applications from educators across the district, and was able to fund 43 programs, projects and critical needs. Just this semester alone, the Foundation disbursed $165,765.

Classroom & Grade Level Learning grant award winners and Clubs & Activities grant award winners were selected by panels of community grant readers.  Schoolwide Impact award winners were chosen by the APS Education Board of Directors' Disbursement Committee.

Among those chosen for the larger Schoolwide Impact award, was the APS Fine Arts Department who requested funding for basic supplies to fuel the most creative and innovative projects in arts classes.

"Since students will not be able to share visual art supplies in the coming months and leading into the next school year, and lab fees were an impossible resource to collect this year, secondary teachers are desperately in need of assistance with purchasing enough supplies for their classes in order to provide quality art instruction," wrote Denise Rudd, APS Visual Arts Manager for Zones 2 & 3.

On Monday, March 29th, as administrators, teachers and school staff were preparing for in-person learning, some also kicked off their week by stopping to pick up their award so they can further support their students and families.
