"My name is Mariel Leon-Lazcano and I am grateful for being selected Selfless Senior for West Mesa High School. The thought that I was able to impact the people around me made me proud of what I do. Having a mother and sister who were always volunteering with many organizations, I learned what it means to help those around you. I learned to always give out a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. I think everyone has a responsibility for looking out for someone, whether that be themselves or others, it is a quality all humans have. I have just taken that responsibility in my own way by giving back to the people and communities I am a part of. Mi amor por ayudar nunca va a cambiar.”
