Truman Middle School STEM Lab and Virtual Learning - 2025 Best In Class Nominee
About Truman Middle School's STEM Lab and Virtual Learning project.
Our program was started before 2023 and served 172 students last year. Its modular design and comprehensive curriculum make it easy to replicate for other schools. By sharing best practices and providing resources, the program can be adapted to suit the unique needs of different schools. Last year, Atrisco Heritage Academy adopted it, creating a pathway for students moving from Middle School to High School.
Virtual learning offers students fun and unique activities in Science, Math, History, and other subjects that allow them to enjoy 21st-century learning. Students learn Math and Science that support standard content-related targeted skills. English language learners become competent in understanding, reading, listening, speaking, and writing the English language. Students use virtual learning to develop self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills vital for success.
By integrating cutting-edge laser engraving, robotics, drone technology, and virtual reality applications, we will create a dynamic, hands-on learning environment where students can explore, innovate, and problem-solve in ways that mirror real-world STEM careers. These tools will enhance science, technology, engineering, art, and math education and increase student engagement, foster creativity, and encourage critical thinking across multiple disciplines. Additionally, providing school-wide access to these resources will ensure equity in STEM learning opportunities, giving all students—regardless of background—the ability to develop the skills needed for future success.
If We Win...
Truman Middle School will utilize the funding to enhance its STEAM Lab and Virtual Reality (VR) program, expanding opportunities for students to engage in hands-on, technology-driven learning experiences. This funding will directly support our STEM education initiatives, benefit students school-wide, and establish Truman as a regional leader in STEAM education and robotics competitions. Additionally, Truman Middle School is collaborating with NASA on Virtual Reality (VR) integration, reinforcing our commitment to high-tech, hands-on learning experiences. The expansion of Truman Middle School’s STEAM Lab and Virtual Reality program will have a lasting impact on our students, teachers, and the broader community.
