Web Accessibility Notice
Albuquerque Public Schools is committed to supporting an online environment that is accessible to all members of the public. This includes individuals with disabilities, users of assistive devices, and the APS community.
The website is the work of many authors and is a dynamic environment. There is the possibility that accessibility difficulties may be encountered. We are continually seeking solutions that will bring all areas of the website up to the same level of overall accessibility. We aim to provide equal access to our websites to the extent that doing so does not impose an undue burden or fundamental alteration.
What We Are Doing
We are updating our website to bring it into compliance with the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA. The measures we are taking include the following:
- Utilizing accessibility tools with the Finalsite content management system to ensure school websites meet WCAG standards.
- Organizing content and using section headings.
- Adding alternative text for images.
- Making link text descriptive.
- Providing ongoing accessibility training to content contributors.
- Conducting quality assurance checks to ensure we are making continuous progress toward compliance.
- Addressing site template functionality by including skip link navigation, aria landmarks and focus states.
Most of our site’s content is provided in HTML. Many longer documents are published in the Portable Document Format (PDF). These can be viewed or accessed with the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. (No endorsement is implied.)
