On April 23, 2025, Students from Ms. Langer’s AVID class took a deep dive into the inner workings of Albuquerque Public Schools administration during a special visit to the APS City Center. The Junior Achievement job shadow experience gave high schoolers a behind-the-scenes look at the many departments that keep the district running smoothly. Junior Achievement, an educational nonprofit that helps equip students with entrepreneurial thinking and personal career strategies, regularly collaborates with the CCL team to provide students with opportunities to explore future career paths.
Throughout the day, students explored a range of APS administrative departments, including Web Services, Indian Education, and Special Education. They learned how each department functions, why it’s essential to district operations, and how collaboration across departments helps support students and schools districtwide.
The visit also included a tour of the APS Board Room, where major district decisions are made. There, students discovered how leadership works to shape policies and bring about positive change while also exploring APS’s goals, guardrails, and the superintendent’s mission statement.
Experiences like these offer valuable insight for students, helping them connect classroom learning with real-world careers. Job shadows are a powerful way to spark early thinking about life after graduation and the many career paths available.
Special thanks to Ms. Langer’s class for their enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit!
