This summer, dozens of students attended Jhanet Khan School of Integrated Art for APS’s Indian Education Summer Cultural Enrichment Program. Over the course of the 4-week summer program, APS students (K–5) explored the importance of cultural identity through various activities. Students gained an understanding of Native American cultures within New Mexico’s pueblos through cooking traditional meals such as mama dolls, exploring the importance traditional ingredients like juniper ash, creating pottery, dreamcatchers, beaded work, and paintings, and learning the written and spoken languages of the Navajo and Zuni cultures.  Students also explored the STEM field by designing, building, and coding their own robotic invention.
