APS Next Step Plan Implementation Schedule
- 8th graders: Complete all four years of the one (1) page interim plan.
- 9th graders: Review and revise as 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade interim plan (6 pages).
- 10th graders: Review and revise 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade interim plan (6 pages).
- 11th graders: Review and revise 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade interim plan (6 pages).
- 12th graders: Review graduation status and revise if needed 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade interim plan and prepare Final Plan.
For Grades 9-12: If the student is not on target for graduation, students along with their parent and a school official will determine a plan of how to get the student back on target for graduation.
Minimal requirements:
- Each student within grades 8 through 12 will complete a Next Step Plan in their advisory. Parents/guardians will review and sign the Next Step Plan in the spring student-led conference.
- Grades 8 through 11 will complete the interim plan.
- Grade 12 will complete the final plan.
Career Guidance Recommendations:
- Complete a career interest inventory, i.e., Career Futures, Choices or Career Clusters Interest Inventory in English or Spanish.
- Identify which NM Career Cluster interests them.
- Identify which career pathway they are interested in within the career cluster.
- Prepare an academic/career portfolio, which includes documents, i.e., letters of recommendation, awards received, resume, industry certificates received, and transcript.
- Complete a career readiness assessment, i.e., WorkKeys.
- Take required entrance exams for colleges or trade schools, i.e., ACT, SAT, and ACUPLACER.
- Participate in a worksite experience in related career interest.
- Participate in a volunteer experience.
- Review colleges of interest and other career goals and requirements to obtain that goal.
- Review career pathways and necessary courses requirements.
