Social Emotional Learning Alliance for New Mexico is Supporting Innovation Schools

Social Emotional Learning Alliance for New Mexico's (SEL4NM) goal for 2024 is to grow Social Emotional Learning (SEL) capacity in educators by providing support available to SEL Ambassadors.

Social Emotional Learning Alliance for New Mexico's (SEL4NM) goal for 2024 is to grow Social Emotional Learning (SEL) capacity in educators (train the trainers) by providing the following support: 

  • An SEL4NM Institute for SEL Ambassadors 
  • One-on-one meetings withs to coach and design SEL initiatives
  • An SEL Readiness Assessment Process (Pre and Post assessment)
  • A robust Social Emotional Learning Resource Hub on our website

SEL4NM Institute 

The SEL4NM Institute will be a collaborative space where self-selected representatives from schools (these representatives are known as SEL Ambassadors) will come together to learn about and discuss best practices for wholistic SEL integration in Innovation Zone initiatives (Graduate Profiles, Capstones, and Work-based learning). Schools should send teams of people (up to three) to the ambassador training/discussions.  Ambassadors can be administrators, counselors, teachers, instructional assistants, coaches - any school-based practitioner interested in leading the SEL integration process at their school. 

Here’s what to expect:

  • The Ambassadors will meet once a month for 6-7 meetings mostly virtually (at least one in-person meeting over the school year).   

  • Ambassadors will learn common language and concepts and discuss practical solutions for SEL integration at their schools.

  • Ambassadors will take back ideas and work to implement iterations of initiatives in their schools which will then be reflected on during the institute meetings.

  • Ambassadors will also have access to one-on-one coaching support from SEL4NM coaches and trainers over the course of the year. 

The SEL4NM Institute is expected to begin around the 3rd week of October. If you or someone you know is interested in being an SEL Ambassador please fill out the SEL4NM Institute for SEL Ambassadors form by October 5th, 2024.

School Site Support

SEL4NM has three coaches as well as some coaches in-training who are available to partner with you to come up with best ways to integrate SEL at your school based on where your school is at in the SEL process. They are aware schools have their own nuances, gifts, and challenges. Their coaches will provide tailored suggestions as they get to know you and your learning community.  Coaches will be reaching out to schools to let you know about their availability. 

The coaches and trainers for 2024 are:

  • Lynne McMahan
  • Amy McConnell Franklin
  • Zach Taylor

SEL Readiness Assessment:

Many have already taken the pre-survey last year and completed a collaborative debrief with Amy or Lynne about where your school is with SEL integration.   If your school hasn’t yet taken the pre-survey SEL4NM will be reaching out about that in the coming weeks.

 

If your school already took the assessment, then SEL4NM will be offering a post-assessment in Spring of 2025.
