New Future's Spring 2025 Intern Final Exhibition
New Futures High School welcomed the Work-Based Learning (WBL) team for a special Final Exhibition, highlighting the accomplishments of student interns who balanced both career and academic developments while fulfilling the demands of parenthood.
On May 2, 2025, New Futures High School welcomed back the Work-Based Learning (WBL) team for a special Final Exhibition, highlighting the accomplishments of student interns who balanced both career and academic developments while fulfilling the demands of parenthood. As New Futures High School is designed to support expecting and teen parents, the school offers a unique learning environment tailored to students navigating both education and parenting.
Unlike other APS student interns who participated in the district-wide exhibition on April 30th at Berna Facio, New Futures interns hosted it's own event on campus due to student barriers such as transportation and childcare. The personalized exhibition gave students the opportunity to present their individual internship experiences and reflect on the personal and professional growth they achieved throughout the semester.
Interns shared how they developed essential career skills, including time management, financial literacy and budgeting, organizational skills, business administration, and skills in childcare, 3D printing, agriculture, and engineering. These skills not only helps prepare them for the workforce but also helped them maintain focus on their education while fulfilling the demanding role of parenthood.
Through their internships, students took on real responsibilities, such as managing the school’s childcare donation store and the community garden, both of which provided valuable resources for the school and nourishment for their families. The experience gave them hands-on learning in leadership, teamwork, and community service, all while building a solid foundation for future success.
Congratulations to Xavier Padilla, Fabiola Perez Contreras, and Amari Solomon-Iule on your recent graduation! The WBL team is incredibly proud of your achievements and can’t wait to see what the future holds! Keep up the great work!
