Before You Know It

In her weekly message, Supt. Reedy writes about the busy second semester.

Anyone like me who has been in education for a while knows how quickly the second semester goes by. It is a dizzying five months, and before you know it, we’ll be wrapping up another school year.

Before you know it, we’ll be hugging the Class of 2020 in their caps and gowns, wishing them well as they move on to a new chapter in life.

Before you know it, we’ll be ushering the rest of our students to the next grade level, transitioning many to middle or high school, and registering the diminutive members of the Class of 2033!

Before you know it, the 2020-2021 school year will be here.

Our objective this spring semester is to do everything in our power to make sure our seniors graduate with their peers; that our students advancing to the next level have the skills and mindset they need for continued success; that our plans for the upcoming school year embrace educational opportunities, innovation, and reform.

A tall order, to be sure. But one we set out to do at the beginning of the school year.

Remember?

Back in August, I shared with you several targets we set for the district, including improved test scores in reading and math, better attendance rates and decreased chronic absenteeism, and a more embracing environment for our families.

The district’s Two-Year Targets are detailed on the superintendent’s website. I encourage you to review them, and then ask yourself, what am I doing to help meet these goals?

Whether you work in a classroom or office, we all play a role in providing quality education. How are you supporting student success? What steps are you taking to make sure our students and families feel welcome, safe, informed, and valued?

What are you doing to improve Albuquerque Public Schools?

Ask yourself this question each day as you head into work. Keep it in front of mind, knowing that your contributions as an employee of this district can and do make a difference.

Let's make the most of the days ahead of us. The end of the school year will be here before you know it.
