Register to Vote in Mail-In Election by Jan. 8

In her weekly message, Supt. Reedy encourages employees to vote in the mail-in election on a bond/mill levy package for school improvements.

A few weeks ago, I encouraged you to vote in the mid-term elections. I appreciate all of you who cast your ballot, playing an important role in the shaping of our government.

Now, I’m asking you to do it again.

If you are a registered voter who lives in the APS district, you should be getting a ballot in the mail in about a month. You'll be asked to vote yes or no on a bond/mill levy package that will help pay for more than $1 billion in school improvements over the next six years. We’re talking everything from rebuilding new schools to repairing fences, playgrounds, and heaters to refreshing computers, microscopes, and tubas.

A yes vote will mean about a 5 percent increase in property taxes. That amounts to about $8 a month for a $150,000 home; $12 a month for a $220,000 home. The tax increase is needed to cover soaring construction costs.

A no vote will make it difficult for the district to maintain classrooms, schools, and grounds. And, planned renovations and improvements of many of our aging schools would not take place.

You have the final say – if you vote.

If you aren't registered to vote, you have until Jan. 8 to do so. Get more information at

If you are registered, please take a minute to make sure the County Clerk has your correct address. You can do this through an Online Registration Search.

If the address is wrong, you will need to fill out a new voter registration. There are several ways to do this:

  • Register online through the New Mexico Secretary of State Voter Services
  • Email your request for a voter registration application to
  • Call 505-468-1291 to request an application.
  • Mail a letter requesting an application to Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office, One Civic Plaza NW, Room 6022, Albuquerque, NM 87102

I also ask that you take time to learn more about this election so you can make an informed decision. We have posted information to the APS website. You also should be getting an information packet in the mail next week that provides some background, details, a list of proposed projects, the three ballot questions and more.

Ballots will be sent out on Jan. 8. They need to be mailed back by Feb. 5.

Thanks for voting!
