Recognizing Outstanding Employees

In her weekly message, Superintendent Reedy encourages nominations for the district's new Employee Recognition program.

In my four decades as an educator, I have received a few awards. That certainly isn’t the reason I went into this profession, but it is nice to be recognized once in a while, especially by your peers.

I often tell you how much I appreciate you and all you do for the students of Albuquerque Public Schools. If I could, I would thank each and every one of you personally.

I would greet all of our bus drivers as they drop off our students in the morning, as well as the police officers and campus aides who keep our schools safe.

I would go from class to class, high-fiving hard-working teachers and educational assistants, fist bumping dedicated principals, counselors, librarians, nurses, and social workers.

I would stop by the office with hugs for secretaries, bookkeepers, and parent liaisons.

I would head down to the cafeteria and slap the backs of cafeteria workers and custodians.

I would shout a big “Thanks” to maintenance and operations workers.

I would go floor to floor and office to office at the Lincoln Complex, Aztec Complex and Alice and Bruce King Education Complex personally extending my gratitude.

And I would still probably miss someone.

There is no way to show how much all 14,000 of you are appreciated, but at least we can celebrate a handful of outstanding employees on your behalf. That is why Albuquerque Public Schools recently launched the Employee Recognition Program. Any individual who has been employed by APS for six months or longer is eligible to be nominated for the recognition. I hope you consider nominating one of your colleagues.

We’re looking for employees who:

  • Put others first
  • Go above and beyond to make a difference in their role
  • Excel as a team player
  • Carry out each day with a positive and welcoming attitude and strong work ethic
  • Demonstrate innovation, leadership, or passion for the job
  • Enthusiastically support the mission of Albuquerque Public Schools
  • Elevate the image of public education.

A Peer Praise Taskforce will select monthly award recipients who will be recognized on the APS electronic digital billboards across the city. They’ll be honored at a Cabinet meeting and a Board of Education meeting, where they will receive a traveling “Best Employee” trophy. And they will be featured on the APS website and in the employee newsletter Perspective.

I look forward to congratulating the recipients of this award in the coming weeks and months. They’ll be accepting in on behalf of all of our hard working, outstanding APS employees.

Thanks for all you do!
