What is the purpose of alignment?
Why does it matter?

Across an organization, alignment ensures clarity of purpose, goals, and initiatives that the entire organization is working to achieve.

The alignment of standards, curricula, instruction, and assessment ensures that what students are expected to learn is supported by the curricula and instructional practices and assessed to determine the degree to which how students learned.

Alignment Year: 2021-2022

  • Using strategic pillars and beliefs, develop goals in order to:
    • Open school safely and continue implementing appropriate COVID-safe tools and strategies
    • Address unfinished, accelerated learning
  • Implement pilots to examine Accelerated Learning Strategies:
    • Additional time for students
    • Additional time for adults
    • Focused tutoring
    • Grading strategies
  • Implement professional development that addresses equity and social emotional learning 
  • Develop an instructional framework that aligns curriculum with assessment 
  • Define areas of need due to declining enrollment 
  • Determine baseline data and gaps for improvement 
  • Align supports to schools through APS Performance Framework. 
  • Develop understanding and coherence to goals

Implementation Year: 2022-2023

  • Set targets based on baseline data to address the gaps in achievement 
  • Scale-up strategies and programs that accelerate learning strategies and strengthen a strong first-tier Level of instruction 
  • Strengthen academic programs amid declining enrollment while maximizing building use, including:
    • Career Technical Education
    • Bilingual/Dual Language Programs
    • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
    • Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate Program
    • Jobs for America Graduates
    • Teacher Cadet Programs
    • Community Schools
