Dear Members of the APS Community:

Superintendent Reedy has announced her retirement at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, so the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education has started its search process for a successor. Superintendent Reedy has built a good foundation for the next superintendent to not only continue but to build upon providing strong academic achievement and wellbeing of our students.

The selection of a new superintendent is the most important decision for any Board of Education to make. We want the best information to select the new superintendent because we know this choice affects the entire community and the education of thousands of students.

A very important step in this process is the identification of the characteristics and qualifications we are looking for in a superintendent. We invite you to participate in identifying these characteristics by attending a community meeting or taking a short survey on the superintendent search web page. Your input into this process is critical and is a key element to the total selection process.

Here are the community meetings dates and times from which to choose to attend:

  • Monday, November 1, 6-7:30 p.m. – Sandia High School Library, 7801 Candelaria NE
  • Tuesday, November 1, 7-8 a.m. – John Milne Community Board Room, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE
  • Thursday, November 2, 6-7:30 p.m. – Volcano Vista High School Library, 8100 Rainbow Road NW
  • Friday, November 2, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – John Milne Community Board Room, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE
  • Monday, November 2, 6-7:30 p.m. – Eisenhower Middle School Library, 11001 Camero Rd. NE
  • Monday, November 2, 6-7:30 p.m. – Alvarado Elementary School Library, 1100 Solar Rd. NW
  • Tuesday, November 2, 6-7:30 p.m. – Roosevelt Middle School Library, 11799 South Highway 14

You are welcome to attend any of the forums that best fits your schedule.

Fliers for the community forums are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic. Spanish language interpreters will be available at all community meetings. An interpreter for other languages will be available if requested at least 48 hours in advance of a scheduled meeting by calling 880-3729.

A dedicated web page linked from the APS home page contains all information gathered to date about the superintendent search process: frequently asked questions, a timeline of the search process and a web-based survey in English and Spanish asking about the desired characteristics in a superintendent. The deadline to complete the online survey is Friday, December 6, at 12 noon.
