Update: Scott Elder Named Acting Superintendent

Chief Operations Officer Scott Elder will step in when Superintendent Raquel Reedy retires at the end of the school year. Elder will work alongside Reedy during the next couple of months in an effort to make the transition as smooth as possible. He will serve as acting superintendent until the Board of Education hires a permanent replacement for Superintendent Reedy.

The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education announced on March 18, that is it suspending the search for a new superintendent until more is understood about mitigating the spread of the coronavirus.

An online application resulted in 39 candidates for the job. Semi-finalists will be chosen, background checks completed, and the board will conduct interviews. From there, finalists will be chosen for second interviews and public engagement. The board hopes to announce the new superintendent by mid-May. The new superintendent would assume responsibilities on July 1.
