Board Meetings
Important Notice About Upcoming Meetings
Board of Education meetings will be hybrid meetings with community members and public forum speakers having a choice to attend in person at the John Milne Community Board Room or by accessing the meeting link at on the board meeting calendar. Presenters and recognition guests will attend virtually.
Public forum, either virtual or in person, is a part of the Board of Education meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Regardless if public forum speakers attend in person or virtually, all speakers must sign up for public forum on the APS website the day of the meeting and before the start of the meeting. Please be sure to visit the APS website to check the agenda.
You can participate in the work of the Board of Education by:
- Signing up to speak at a virtual and in-person public forum
- Watching the live stream of upcoming board meetings.
- Emailing input, comments, and questions to board members at boarded@aps.edu, or calling board members at 505-880-3729.
Closed captioning will continue to be provided in English for Board of Education Zoom meetings live-streamed to YouTube.

Minutes of Special Board of Education Meeting
Albuquerque Public Schools
A Special Board of Education meeting of Albuquerque Public Schools was held Friday, September 13, 2013, beginning at 7:30 a.m., in the DeLayo Martin Community Room, Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE.
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:32 a.m.
A. Roll Call
Present: Dr. Analee Maestas, Kathy Korte (by phone), Lorenzo Garcia, Martin Esquivel, Steven Michael Quezada, Dr. Don Duran and Dr. David Peercy (by phone)
B. Adoption of the September 13, 2013, Special Board of Education Meeting Agenda (Discussion/Action)
Lorenzo Garcia motioned for adoption of the September 13, 2013, Special Board of Education meeting agenda. Dr. Peercy seconded the motion. Board members approved the motion.
II. Consideration for Approval to Adjourn to Executive Session Pursuant to the Open Meetings Act NMSA 1978, § 10-15-1(H)(2)(Limited Personnel Matters) for the Purpose of Discussion of the Superintendent’s Progress for the District (Action)
Steven Michael Quezada motioned to move into executive session. Lorenzo Garcia seconded the motion. The roll call vote revealed that Dr. Analee Maestas, Kathy Korte, Lorenzo Garcia, Martin Esquivel, Steven Michael Quezada, Dr. Don Duran and Dr. David Peercy voted to move into executive session for the purpose of discussion of the superintendent’s progress for the district.
III. Reconvene to Open Session
The meeting reconvened at 8:42 p.m.
IV. Statement of Closure
President Esquivel stated that the APS Board of Education met in executive session on September 13, 2013, to discuss the superintendent’s progress for the district and the matters discussed in the executive session were limited only to those specified.
V. Superintendent Report
Superintendent Brooks reported on the status of the Montgomery Complex damage due to the heavy rains and the process to evacuate and relocate employees, departments and resources. He also spoke about the replacement possibility for this facility.
VI. Board Reports
Dr. Maestas requested evaluation of delayed Individualized Education Program (IEPs) and requested that they be brought up to date. Dr. Duran requested a report on the status of the teacher shortage. He also encouraged the APS administration to inspire people to move into the teaching profession.
VII. Announcement of Meetings
President Esquivel announced the upcoming Board of Education meeting, Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 5:00 p.m., in the John Milne Community Board Room of the Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex and the Special Board of Education meeting, Friday, September 27, 2013, at 7:30 a.m., in the DeLayo Martin Community room of the Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex.
VIII. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
