- B. Adoption of the June 26, 2013, Special Meeting Agenda

II. Consideration for Approval of Option in Response to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Denial of APS’ Alternative Teacher and School Leader Evaluation System Proposal
At the District and Community Relations Committee meeting of June 26, 2013, Superintendent Winston Brooks and Carrie Robin Menapace, legislative liaison and policy analyst, presented different options for consideration of the board due to APS’ request for permission to implement a locally-developed teacher evaluation system being denied by the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). Board members approved submitting the “blue” plan at the District and Community Relations Committee meeting. Ms. Menapace reminded board members of the deadline to submit the chosen plan by Friday, June 28. Dr. Duran expressed concern about voting for an issue and process that has been predetermined by NMPED. Board members requested information about the compliance of other districts with the NMPED evaluation plan. Ms. Menapace informed board members that she knew that 25 other districts were out of compliance and some of those districts didn’t know that they had to submit a plan.
President Esquivel requested a motion from board members. Dr. Peercy motioned for approval of the “blue” plan. Kathy Korte seconded motion. The motion was approved with Kathy Korte, Lorenzo Garcia, Steven Michael Quezada and Dr. Peercy voting in favor of approving the “blue” plan to be submitted to NMPED. Dr. Duran, Dr. Maestas, and President Esquivel voted against the motion.
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
