Important Notice About Upcoming Meetings
Board of Education meetings will be hybrid meetings with community members and public forum speakers having a choice to attend in person at the John Milne Community Board Room or by accessing the meeting link at on the board meeting calendar. Presenters and recognition guests will attend virtually.
Public forum, either virtual or in person, is a part of the Board of Education meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Regardless if public forum speakers attend in person or virtually, all speakers must sign up for public forum on the APS website the day of the meeting and before the start of the meeting. Please be sure to visit the APS website to check the agenda.
You can participate in the work of the Board of Education by:
- Signing up to speak at a virtual and in-person public forum
- Watching the live stream of upcoming board meetings.
- Emailing input, comments, and questions to board members at boarded@aps.edu, or calling board members at 505-880-3729.
Closed captioning will continue to be provided in English for Board of Education Zoom meetings live-streamed to YouTube.

Albuquerque Public Schools
A District and Community Relations Committee meeting of the Board of Education of the Albuquerque Public Schools was held Tuesday, February 28, 2012, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the DeLayo Martin Community Room, Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex, 6400 Uptown NE.

Present: Lorenzo Garcia, David Peercy, Kathy Korte, Paula Maes, Analee Maestas, Marty Esquivel, David Robbins by phone. |

Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SuperSAC) report (Discussion) Presenter: Joseph Escobedo, chief of staff Mr. Brooks introduced two of the SuperSAC students: Parker Mosey from Volcano Vista High School and Tess Deserisy from La Cueva High School. Parker and Tess spoke about their trip to the 2012 Legislative Session, and felt that the legislators treated them more like students on a field trip than taking them serious as students who want to make a change. SuperSAC students felt that budget cuts should not be made to extracurricular activities or teacher salaries.

Legislative Update (Discussion) Presenter: Carrie Robin Menapace, APS legislative liaison and policy analyst, Joseph Escobedo, chief of staff Review of the 2012 Legislative Session, specifically legislation tracked due to potential impact on the district:

Families United for Education Process for Proposed Family Engagement Policy (Discussion) Presenter: Dr. Diego Gallegos, Assistant Superintendent and Families United for Education Representatives. (Presenters in order of appearance: Robert Heckman, Rubina Syed, Francisco Ronquillo, Delma Madrigal, Lisa Garcia, Alba Martinez, Enrique Cardiel, Claudia Diaz, and Daya Rivera, Candelaria Patterson and Ronalda Warito -Tome.) Families United for Education (FUE), a group of parents organized and facilitated by the School and Community Partnerships Department at the request of the Hispano Latino Academic Achievement Committee’s (HLAAC) sub-committee on “Creating Welcoming and Inclusive Schools,” presented the process that they undertook that resulted in their proposed family engagement policy. They shared information about the forums/groups that provided information or data that was used in their work as well as how the data was organized and analyzed. They also presented the issues/perspectives/data that they believe to be essential in how they determined the values and content that framed their proposed policy and procedural directives on family engagement.
The Assistant Superintendent for School and Community Support Diego Gallegos, the Executive Director of Board Services BrendaYager , the Director of the School and Community Partnerships Department Teresa Brito-Asenap, and the Legislative Liaison and Policy Analyst Carrie Robin Menapace continue to work with FUE and have agreed to include FUE in the process for reviewing current policy language regarding family engagement. FUE discussed their proposal with the Board Policy Committee Chairperson Dr. David Peercy. |
